City of Warsaw

The capital of Poland since 1526, when it took over its function from Cracow, Warsaw is home to around 1.7 million people. Almost completely destroyed by the Nazis during World War II, Warsaw’s reconstruction is testament to the spirit of the Polish people. Varsovians are fun loving and warm and are always eager to embrace new experiences and cultures.

Warsaw is also the seat of Polish Government and Parliament called Sejm which has been a free democracy since the fall of Communism in 1990. The Parliament is made up of two chambers and elections are held every four years.

Many multinational companies have offices in the Polish capital highlighting its economic importance in the wider Central European Region. In 1991 the State Treasury formed the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) which has over 435 companies listed with the value of listed shares exceeding 200 million Euro. The WSE now trades shares, bonds, subscription rights, allotments and other securities.

With its education, business and economic opportunities, Warsaw is developing an international reputation as a place to do business, and as such our students are ideally positioned to take advantage of these favourable circumstances.

As well as being Poland’s largest city, Warsaw is also its cultural centre. Apart from such attractions as the Palace of Culture and Science, countless theatres, cinemas, galleries and museums Warsaw is a melting pot of cultural activity from around the globe, representing the diverse nature of its inhabitants.

Some places not to be missed in Warsaw include:

  • Warsaw Old Town and Market Square
  • Łazienki Park
  • Warsaw Palace of Culture and Science
  • Copernicus Science Centre
  • National Opera Theatre
  • The Royal Castle and Square

You will find Warsaw a vibrant, modern European capital city with plenty of amazing surprises and you’ll never be bored of discovering various faces of the city.
